Thank you Side-Line Magazine for the review on  Dec 14, 2016

The band is already very well established in Asia through numerous live performances, radio and TV shows and various international collaborations, proving that not only Scandinavian acts can produce slick electro pop.

And also for the review on September 27, 2017

Female fronted electropop act Cosmic Armchair finally have their debut album ready: ‘Contact’ … The female fronted duo offers a very clean electropop which will please those into the sound of Technoir and related.

Thanks to veteran music reviewer Chris Toh for listing us in his article on January 4th, 2016.

Formed by husband-and-wife duo of Cosmic Ben and Jane, this electronica outfit released their first EP Marching Of The Days in 2009 and have since followed up with tracks such as Just One Look, I Don’t Belong Here and Take You Home. Their music has been compared to St Etienne and Goldfrapp, and they’ve been hailed not just in Singapore but in international waters as well, by the likes of Side-Line magazine, neodiscotheque.com and synth.nu.

In the same week that we’ve been reviewed in Swedish, we also discovered that we were reviewed in German in June!  Thanks to Seda at neodiscotheque.com  – sorry we missed the review earlier!

“Weiter gehts mit einem zweiten Ohrwurm; electropop aus Singapur. Manchmal kann man, trotz allem, trotz all dem Dreck in der Umgebung und all den Unsinnigkeiten, tanzen; und der Tanz weckt Hoffnung auf, gegen all die Unsinnigkeiten. so klingen eben Cosmic Armchair :)“

screen capture of the review in Swedish

We love seeing our music travel all over the world, and this time we’re very happy to get a review in Swedish on the website synth.nu

“Det första som slår mig med bandet är att jag tycker de påminner lite om Saint Etienne. Cosmic Jane har en riktigt skön och vacker röst. Minuset är möjligtvis att jag tycker de engelska uttalen svajar ibland.”

Power of Pop: Cosmic Armchair signs with Alfa Matrix

Singapore electro-pop duo Cosmic Armchair has signed with Alfa Matrix, and has become the first Asian band to sign an album deal with Belgium-based in label. This collaboration with Alfa Matrix, home to international electro stars like Front 242, Recoil, Nitzer Ebb and supergroup Bruderschaft, gives the duo better access to audiences everywhere especially in Europe and America.

Cosmic Armchair has already remixed two Alfa Matrix artists – Mondtraume (from Spain) and Simon Carter (from the UK). Both remixes are now available on the respective artist’s albums. Cosmic Armchair’s debut album on the Alfa Matrix label is targeted for release in the middle of 2014, but Singapore fans don’t need to wait till then to hear the songs ‘live’. The band will be playing at The Esplanade Outdoor Theatre on Friday night 11 April 2014. The duo will be playing two ‘live’ sets at 7.30pm and 10pm and will be featuring their new songs including the upcoming single “I Don’t Belong Here”.

Singapore’s electro-pop duo take another step up

BY KEVIN MATHEWS

PUBLISHED: APRIL 10, 4:12 AM

SINGAPORE — Things are definitely looking up for Cosmic Armchair, the Singaporean electro-pop husband-and-wife duo.

The pair, who go by the stage monikers Cosmic Jane (singer/songwriter) and Cosmic Ben (producer/arranger), has been active in the local indie scene since 2008, releasing a couple of well-received EPs and playing at various venues around the island.

But the best evidence of how well their music has been received is probably the fact that Cosmic Armchair recently inked a recording deal with Belgian EDM (electronic dance music) label Alfa Matrix.

“We first made contact with Alfa Matrix a year ago, when we sent our song Conversation to them, and they selected it for their Absolute Grrrls Manifesto compilation box series. It was a good boost for us, and we were the only Asian band in that collection of female-fronted bands from the international alternative/underground music scene,” said Ben.

“Later in the year, Sebastien Dolimont (the Artist Manager at Alfa Matrix) asked us if we would like to remix a song by one of their new bands, the Spanish electro act Mondtraume,” he added. “It was an artistic challenge … but we liked the song and it was a good opportunity to get more international exposure. We finally created a club remix of their song Life Is Short — and they liked it!”

That led to another Alfa Matrix artist (Simon Carter from the UK) asking them to remix one of his songs, and the next thing they knew, Cosmic Armchair became a remix sensation. “We had barely completed our remix of Carter’s Reasons when more Alfa Matrix artists started emailing us from Europe,” said Ben.

When Alfa Matrix offered to sign on Cosmic Armchair as one of its artists earlier this year, Ben said they didn’t just jump in with both feet. “It wasn’t a quick decision, because we had to consider very carefully if we would sacrifice our independence,” he explained. “But the team at Alfa Matrix were frank about the business, and reassured us that they placed a high priority on building trust and communication, so that artists can focus on making music.”

An album is slated for release in mid-2014, but the duo already has a teaser out: The perky new single, I Don’t Belong Here. Fans can look forward to a music video, too, and possible overseas tours as well. But first up, Cosmic Armchair celebrates this milestone in their career with two sets at the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre tomorrow as part of the weekend’s Electric Avenue event. Said Ben: “It’s an outdoor show, so you can bring your friends, your family, a picnic … and we hope you’ll say ‘hi’ after the show.”

Electric Avenue happens April 11 to 13. Cosmic Armchair performs at 7.30pm and 10pm on Friday.

5MinuteMusic Reviews our Esplanade show and A Second Look EP

Thanks to 5MinuteMusic for reviewing our show at The Esplanade Concourse as well as our EP A Second Look. Read the whole article at http://5minutemusic.com/post/31837380419/cosmic-armchair-a-prelude-to-a-new-release

“The name Cosmic Armchair is self-descriptive of the band’s approach to their music. Whilst their beats often take on a vibe that is reminiscent of downtempo styles, they don’t shy away from the occasional heavy groove. The vocals are strong but dream-like, contributing to an overall sound that is distinctively chill-out.”

It is a Singapore Special, as home-grown musicians unveil a batch of original releases that traverse range and emotions

The Straits Times (Singapore), December 3, 2010 Friday, by Yeow Kai Chai, sound bites

How’s your day?, asks actress Gemia Khoo at the start of Conversation, the second track off Cosmic Armchair’s second EP.

Hers is a distinct Singapore accent that provides a smart and jolting counterpoint to the band’s brand of Euro electro blips.

Elsewhere, references like Depeche Mode and a neo-revival act La Roux are fair, although the Cosmic duo prefer smoothness over anything too industrial or apocalyptic.

The band are made up of Cosmic Jane and Cosmic Ben, who prefer to keep their real identities secret, like superheroes.

If anything, Cosmic Jane plays Everything But The Girl’s Tracey Thorn to Cosmic Ben’s Ben Watt, in a man-woman interplay of subtle emotion and dance rapture.

Take Your Home is the piece de resistance here, with Jane’s calm confession over Ben’s incremental build-up of micro beats and synth rain.
